James R. Uebler, 80 of Niles passed away in his home on May 17, 2018.
He was born April 13, 1938 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Norman and Ethel “Toots”(Hurbert) Uebler.
On October 14, 1961 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Gary, IN., he married Rosemary Haberkorn who passed away on June 6, 2011. He is also preceded by his brothers; Donald and Lee, and sisters Jeannette Szymkowski and Bonnie Rodriguez.
James is survived by his children, Jamie (Bryan) vanReesema of Virginia Beach, VA, Jeff (Kathy) Uebler of South Bend, Heidi (Andrew) Seitz of Raleigh, NC., grandchildren; Lauren vanReesema, Willem vanReesema, Anna Uebler, Kate Uebler, Lucas Seitz, Zach Seitz, sisters; Maxine Swartz and Elenore Nelson.
James had a long and distinguished career with the Michigan State Police and was a Detective until his retirement. He was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Niles. For many years, James was the president of the Babe Ruth Baseball league. He also enjoyed golfing.
A memorial service for James will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Halbritter Wickens Funeral Home 615 E. Main St. Niles.
