Lewis E. Meyers

Lewis E. Meyers, age 93, of Kalamazoo passed away Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Bronson  Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo.  Lew was born May 17, 1925 in Stryker, Ohio the son of the late Guy and Martha (Coy) Meyers.  After completing high school Lew joined the U.S. Navy serving in the South Pacific during World Wars II and served in the Korean War.  He was employed as a machinist at the Eaton Corp until his retirement.

Lew was a caring, helpful person and a hard-working individual who was the caretaker of Kalamazoo First Assembly of God Church for many years after his retirement.  He was a member of the Greenwood Reformed Church, Kalamazoo and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, gardening and the Detroit Tigers.  Lew was a great husband and extraordinary dad and enjoyed taking his sons to the Indianapolis 500 for many years.

On June 5, 1945 Lew was united in marriage to Elaine Meyers who preceded him in death on November 2, 2004.  He was also preceded in death by a baby brother, Robert Meyers, sister, Louise Wilson and brothers, Bob and Don Meyers.

On August 12, 2006 Lew was united in marriage to Nancy (Bowser) Berner who survives.  Also surviving are 4 sons, Michael Meyers of East LeRoy, Paul (Mary) Meyers of Fulton, James Meyers of East LeRoy and David (Jerri) Meyers of Pine Lake; 11 grandchildren; 12 greatgrandchildren; many nieces and nephews.  Nancy’s children, Kathy (Joseph) Libbrecht of Mattawan, Robin Berner of Sturgis, Tom Berner of Iowa and Steve Berner of Kalamazoo; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place.  A memorial service will be held at Greenwood Reformed Church, 1815 Winton Ave, Kalamazoo, on June 1, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.  Memorial contributions may be directed to Greenwood Reformed Church.
