George Disbrow Krieger, 95, of Watervliet, went home to be with God and his wife, Jane, on Feb. 27, 2016.

He was born on Oct. 20, 1920, in Watervliet, to George and Leta (Disbrow) Krieger.  George graduated from Watervliet High School in 1938 where he played football and basketball.  He joined the Coast Guard and served in the Pacific Theater during WWII.  He married Jane Brunson on June 5, 1946.  George worked at the Watervliet Paper Mill in various capacities for 42 years.  He also farmed 60 acres on Dan Smith Rd., selling evergreens and Christmas trees for many years and grain farming.  He was an active and faithful member of Plymouth Congregational Church, serving as an usher and on the Board of Deacons and Trustees.  George was also on the Watervliet Township Zoning Board for many years.  He enjoyed his greenhouse and garden, and watching the birds at his many feeders.  He was proud of his family and they will miss his quiet strength and sly sense of humor.

George is survived by beloved children: Karen (Paul) Nickels of Coloma, Ken (Margie) Krieger of Benton Harbor, Keith (Caryn) Krieger of Coloma, his cherished grandchildren: Becky (Mike) Neibarger of Muskegon, Katie Nickels of Colorado Springs, CO, Eric (Meagan) Burton-Krieger of Nashville, TN, Heather Krieger of Houston, TX, Chris (Lauren) Krieger of Hazel Park, MI, and Cody Krieger of El Segundo, CA.  He also leaves much loved great grandsons, Ben Neibarger and Cameron Krieger.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Jane Krieger, Feb. 9, 2012.

In accordance with George’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12th, at Plymouth Congregational Church in Watervliet where visitation will begin one hour prior to the service.  George’s grandson, Rev. Eric Burton-Krieger is officiating along with Larry Easton.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Plymouth Congregational Church, PO Box 275, Watervliet, MI, 49098 or Hospice-at-Home, 4025 Health Park Lane, St. Joseph, MI 49085.
