Ilene Brooks, 75, of Dowagiac, was called home on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at The Timbers of Cass County.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, March 24, 2016 at The Apostolic Lighthouse, 30402 M-62 West, Dowagiac. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM Thursday at the church. Memorial donations may be made to the family c/o Johnnie Brooks. Ilene was born on November 11, 1940 in Georgia to Owen & Henrietta (Howell) Brookins. On January 20, 1968, she married Johnnie Brooks in St. Joseph. Ilene took care of everyone around her, nothing was more important to her than her family.
Ilene is survived by three sons, Johnnie (Tonya) Brooks of Dowagiac, Daniel (Latrice) Brooks of Dowagiac and DeVoned (Angela) Brooks of Dowagiac; eight grandchildren, Jalen, Brittany, Dequan, Tamia, DaShawn, Daniel “DJ”, DaMia and Darianna; two brothers, Owen (Denise) Brookins, Jr. of Dowagiac and LaVern Brookins of Chicago; two sisters, Dorothy Brookins-Cosey of Dowagiac and Loretta Wilson of Dowagiac; three nephews, Gegrory, James & LaVern, Jr.; four nieces, Andrea, Ashley, Keri and Sabrina.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her uncle Alton Brooks and her aunt Barbara Jean Brookins.
