Larry Fisher, age 69, of Three Oaks, went to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, April 16, 2016, in his home with his family by his side.

Larry was born December 18, 1946 in Lansing, Michigan, the son of Arthur and Mary (Gilchrist) Fisher.
When Larry was a toddler, he contracted Polio. In 1956, he became the poster child for the Michigan March of Dimes. Larry was the first person in Michigan to have received the Polio vaccine. Larry was raised in Portland, Michigan and graduated from Portland High School in 1965. In 1970, Larry graduated from Ferris State College with his Bachelor’s of Science in Business Education. On June 4, 1971, he married Bobbie Leyrer. In 1971, he started working in the Adult and Community Education Program in Portland. In the fall of 1972, he attended the Mott Educational Leadership Program in Flint, Michigan while working at Carman Ainsworth Community and Adult Education Program. With the help of this Program, he received his Master’s degree in School Administration/Community Education from Central Michigan University. In 1973, he accepted the position of Adult Education/Community Education Director for River Valley School District. Throughout his career, his position transitioned into Alternative Education. Larry was extremely influential in helping over 600 students receive their high school diploma. He helped start youth baseball, softball, and other recreational programs. He helped in the development of the River Valley Senior Center and was on the board of the Region IV Area Agency on Aging for several years. Larry was an avid outdoorsmen. He truly enjoyed his hunting, fishing and shooting.

Larry will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife Bobbie,
his children: James (Karen) Fisher, Dr. Melissa (Randy) Smith; his grandsons: Cody, Wyatt, and Braxton;
his sister Bobbie (Jim) Thompson; his nephews Patrick (Carol) Thompson, Luke Thompson; his grand-nephews Kevin and Nicholas Thompson; as well as many friends.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents.

Family and friends will gather Tuesday, April 19, 2016, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Pobocik Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 106 Ash Street East, Three Oaks, Michigan 49128. The Funeral will be held Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with an hour of gathering prior to the Funeral, at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, 2673 West John Beers Road, Stevensville, Michigan 49127.

The Reverend Jonathan Kruschel and The Reverend Brett Ehlke will be officiating.

Larry will be laid to rest in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Three Oaks Township, Michigan.
