Roscoe J. Long ended his 94 year journey on earth Wednesday, October 26, 2016, and has entered into heaven to be with his Lord and Savior forever. Roscoe was born Sep 29, 1922, in Manila, Arkansas. He was the son of Buster and Lula Evelyn Hudgen.
He is survived by his three children, Kay (Ken) Lehmann of Benton Harbor, MI, Lee (Mary) Long of Peoria, AZ, Cody (Ginger) Long of Noblesville IN; and a sister Helen Huskey of Kalamazoo, MI.
He was preceded in death by his wife Elberta (Clay), two brothers, Herschel and Charles, a sister, Rebah Faulkner and two grandchildren, Shaya Long and Rebecca Caston.
He has 7 grandchildren; Tami (Tony) Guilbault, Karin (John) Caston, RaeAnn (Brian) Mock, David (Janette) Long, Kevin (Alysia) Lehmann, Amos (Lisa) Long, Ian (Erin) Long, and 12 great grandchildren; Jakob & Evan Guilbault, Sydni and Caleb Mock, Adam, Andrew and Rachel Long, Carter and Addison Lehmann, Mikayla Long, Amelia and Emery Long.
Mr. Long was the Manager of the Little Rock, AK Walgreens Restaurant. He Joined the Army Air Corp (Air Force) and served in WWII in Calcutta, India. After returning, he joined Whirlpool and worked in the Model Shop for 31 years where he retired from.
He served at both the Assemblies of God and Nazarene churches as a Board Member and Sunday School Teacher; he actually was still teaching a senior class before passing.
For the past 2 years, he was a resident of The Whitcomb Retirement Center where he enjoyed the scenery, walks on the bluff and visiting with his many friends.
Roscoe and Elberta were married on October 26, 1942, in Manila. They were married for 65 years, during which time they enjoyed traveling, especially the Holy Land, their grand children and great grandchildren and they’re many accomplishments. They had a deep love of counseling and Bible study, of which many were privileged to share.
The viewing will be held from 3-6 pm Sunday October 30, 2016 at Starks & Menchinger Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday October 31, 2016 at the Church of the Nazarene, St. Joseph, MI., with Rev. Dean Pickett and Rev. Brian Robbins officiating. Entombment will be at North Shore Memory Gardens for family only.
