Donald M. Shawver, 75, of New Buffalo, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville surrounded by his loving wife and three daughters.  

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:30 A.M. Thursday, December 15 at Water’s Edge United Methodist Church, 18732 Harbor Country Dr., New Buffalo, with Rev. Bradley Bartelmay officiating. A Celebration of Life Gathering will immediately follow from Noon until 3:00 P.M. at the church.  Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Southwest Michigan or Hanson Hospice Center.  Those wishing to sign Don’s Memory Book online may do so atwww.starks-menchinger.com. 

Don was born July 25, 1941 in East Chicago, Indiana to Berl & Elizabeth (Hreha) Shawver. He graduated from East Chicago Washington High School in 1959. Don entered the United States Marine Corp. serving his country during the Vietnam War.  After the service, Don attended Michigan State University and earned a Bachelor Degree.  On April 7, 1972, he married the former Christine Wysong-Robinson in Miller Indiana.   Don was employed as a respiratory therapist for many years at Memorial Hospital in Michigan City, before gaining employment with Smith’s Medical Division in Gary, Indiana in market research & development.  He retired in 2012 after 20-plus years.  Don was a member of Water’s Edge United Methodist Church and the New Buffalo American Legion Post #169.  He served as a Grand Beach Reserve Police Officer.  In his free time, Don enjoyed martial arts Jujitsu-where he earned his Black Belt, hunting, fishing, boating, tinkering with anything & everything, and rooting for the Chicago Bears & Chicago Cubs. 

Don is survived by his wife Chris; three daughters-Donielle ( Mike) Sites & Tracy Shawver-Gean, both of Stevensville, Shannon Shawver of New Buffalo; five grandchildren-Kelsey, McKayla & Tyler Sites, Madison Gean & Sierra Sheeler; his brother Robert (Gail) Shawver of Hammond, IN; his sister Kathy Mosley of LaPorte, IN; and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
