
Kenneth P. Wright, age 72, of Cassopolis, died peacefully Wednesday, February 8, 2017 in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka in the comfort of his family’s presence.
He was born December 12, 1944 in Dowagiac, Michigan, the third of four children of Dwight and Marabeth (Clark) Wright. He married Angelyn Faye Van Ness August 6, 1977 in Cassopolis, Michigan. She survives. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dennis Wright.
Ken served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a beloved educator for over forty years, retiring from the Cassopolis Public Schools. Ken, or “Doc” as he was known to his students, was the Director of Driver’s Education. Doc also served as the head Basketball Coach for both boys and girls, head Football Coach for the boys, and was seen by many of his students as a mentor, father figure and friend. After retiring he helped his sons coach at Edwardsburg Public Schools. Ken loved spending time with his grandkids and lit up when he saw them.
Ken will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife of thirty nine years, Angie Wright; three sons, Rob (Tonya) Wright, Kenneth M. (Ashley) Wright, Steve (Becky) Wright; six grandchildren, Brady Wright, Michael Wright, Mia Wright, Cora Wright, Caiden Wright, Paxton Wright; one sister, Connie (Robert) Birkhold; one brother, Tom (Sue) Wright; one sister in law, Kay (Roger) Wright Munson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather Wednesday, February 15, 2017, 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 North Broadway Street, Cassopolis. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home when he will be accorded full Military Honors. Mr. Wright’s remains will be laid to rest in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Cassopolis.
The family prefers contributions in Ken’s memory be made to the family in care of Steve Wright.
