Mother Tommie Lee Evans was born November 16, 1929 in Blytheville, AR to Arvelia and Milton Moon Sr. She was married 27 years to the love of her life K. C. Evans who proceeded her in death in 1983. To this union was born five children. Tommie gave her life to the Lord at an early age and faithfully served her church Unity Temple COGIC under the leadership of Bishop William Nichols for more than 41 years.
Mother Evans served faithfully as the Pastors Aide President for many years. Served as the Assistant church mother. Mother Evans was on the Mothers Board. She was Evangelist Missionary who was a great teacher and loved talking to the young women.
After graduating from Benton Harbor High School, Mother Tommie Lee Evans began her career at Whirlpool Corporation where she worked until she retired. After her retirement she embarked on her entrepreneurial career where she was affectionately known as the candy lady, floral designer, seamstress, landlord, the creator of grandma’s hair grease, and a host of other trades.
Mother Tommie Lee Evans, 87, of Benton Harbor, went home to be with the Lord on Friday February 10, 2017 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law Kelvin (Dawn) Evans surrounded by her family and love ones. Tommie Lee is survived by her son Ronnie (Shirley) Moon, Kelly Moon, Sandra Lee Moon, Kelvin (Dawn) Evans. Also survived her grand-children she raised; Tamarrow Evans, Chevon Faith Evans, Brandy Moon Her grandchildren Derrick Moon, Timica Moon, Chelsea Moon, Misty Moon, Bryan (Karen) Moon, Terry Self, Cheba Self, Deana Snerling, DeNodd Davis, Soncierria Louis, Kelley Charles (Tammy) McGehee, Telly Evans, Jamal Evans, Kelly Nicole Johnson, Nakisha Evans, Kelvin Evans II and Christopher Evans; fourteen great-great grandchildren; two sisters: Ida Evans Indianapolis, IN and Mary Alice Carr, Atlanta, GA and one brother, George (Dorothy) Moon, Benton Harbor, and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
Mother Tommie was preceded in death by her parents Arvelia and Milton Moon Sr., her husband K. C. Evans, three brothers Bennie L. Moon, Milton Moon Jr., and Charles “Bot” Moon; five sisters, Margaret Branch, Herbert Durr, Ruth Caldwell, Brenda Moon and Ruby Thomas; her son Daryl Moon.
