Gary Curtis, Sr.

Gary Allen Curtis, Sr., age 79, of Cassopolis, went to be with the Lord peacefully Wednesday evening, August 15, 2018 in Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana.

He was born November 19, 1938 in Calvin Township, Michigan, the fourth of twelve children born to Loren and Ellen Curtis. He married Catherine Lucille MacNeal May 18, 1963 in Cassopolis, Michigan. She survives.

Gary was a devoted family man. He loved his wife, children, and especially his grandchildren. He served honorably in the US Army. He retired from Trinity Industries after forty-three years, working his way up to Plant Manager. Gary was a devoted Deacon at Christ Temple Church in Cassopolis, Michigan for over twenty-five years. He was a leader and friend who gave his best to all.

Gary will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Catherine Curtis of Cassopolis, Michigan; one daughter, Karen Curtis of Cassopolis, Michigan; two sons, Gary (Cindy) Curtis, Jr. of Blacklick, Ohio, Elliott Curtis of Coldwater, Michigan; eleven grandchildren, Rondell Young, Paul (Aja) Curtis, Sr., Ariel Curtis, DaShaun Curtis, Celia Ash, Kaylyn Forrest, Marquise Curtis, Eryn Forrest, Eian Forrest, Jeremain Curtis, Kavion Curtis; two great grandchildren, Emani Lee, Paul Curtis, Jr.; three sisters, Sharon Haithcox of Cassopolis, Michigan, Victoria Nolan of Hazelcrest, Illinois, Judith Curtis of Chicago, Illinois; one brother, Richard (Janice) Curtis, Sr., of Chicago, Illinois; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Sidonia Elizabeth Curtis; three sisters, Mary Bass, Dorothy Curtis, Barbara Mitchell; and four brothers, Harold Curtis, Sr., Charles Curtis, Robert Curtis, Sr., William Curtis.

Family and friends will gather Saturday, August 25, 2018 from 12 Noon until time of service at 1:00 p.m. in Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 North Broadway Street, Cassopolis, with the Reverend David Johnson officiating.

Mr. Curtis’ remains will be laid to rest beside his daughter, Sidonia, in Bethel Cemetery in Calvin Township, Michigan.
