Lurria Hawkins, 101, of Benton Harbor, died Monday, August 3, 2020 at her home.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, August 7, 2020 at 1:00 at the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in Benton Township. Burial will follow in North Shore Memory Gardens. Lurria was born on January 21, 1919 in Tyronza, AR to Christopher and Mattie Baker. She married John Wesley Hawkins and they celebrated 67 years of marriage. John preceded her in death in 2004. She was a homemaker and lovingly raised 15 children. She was an active member of the Church of God in Christ. She prided herself on cleaning and keeping up her house. She also enjoyed gardening. But her main focus was always on her family.
Her family includes her children, Willie May Rodgers of Los Angelis, Dollesta Sanders of Los Angelis, Charles Hawkins of Lansing, Fletcher Hawkins of Los Angelis, Kenneth Hawkins of Buchanan, David Hawkins of Kingman, AZ, Alfreida Booth of Los Vegas, Marie Hawkins of Dallas, TX, Venita Howard of Niles, Dorothy Hawkins of SC, and Louis Hawkins of Benton Harbor. She also has many grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren, along with several step-grandchildren,
She was also preceded by her children Nathaniel Hawkins, John Hawkins, Jr, Curtis Hawkins, and Velma Thorton, and by her 14 brothers and sisters.
