Carolyn Shearer Hollomon Ames passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at the age of 74. She was born November 25, 1946 to Charles and Virginia (Abraham) Shearer. She grew up in south St Joe and attended St Joe schools and received her BA degree from WMU in 1967.

Carolyn married David Hollomon and they had one son, Joseph Hollomon. Carolyn always knew Joe to be the best part of her life. In 1977, she married Don Ames and gained a wonderful additional family; Don’s grown children Bruce, Esther and Audrey.

Carolyn was a social worker with the Department of Social Services (now the DHS) for 32 years and retired in 2002.

She truly valued her friends and family. She liked staying connected with friends at coffee, organizing potlucks at Lions Park Beach, Friday night out and shopping. She loved traveling and always wanted to return to London. Gambling in Las Vegas, Connecticut and Monaco were a good reason to travel. Liked to garden even though every year the deer would eat her hostas and tulips.

Carolyn is survived by her son Joe from Grand Rapids; her step children, Bruce (Kathy) Ames of Mesa, AZ and Esther Ames of Tucson, AZ; her sister-in-law, Dolores Shearer of Stevensville; her brother-in-law, Gail (Delores) Peapples of Sumnerville, S.C; and several wonderful nieces, nephews and step grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don Ames; her step daughter, Audrey; her brother, Charles; and her nephew, David.
