Jeffrey Lamar Deans

Jeffrey Lamar Deans, age 65, died peacefully Sunday, January 16, 2022, in the comfort of his family’s presence.

His life began December 30, 1956, in Chicago, Illinois, born to the late Joshua Alton Jr. and the Reverend Myrtle Deans.

Jeff, as he was affectionately called, was educated in the Chicago and Cassopolis public school systems.  Having relocated from Chicago to Michigan, Jeff seemed to have no problem settling into the small town of Vandalia.  After high school, Jeff had several jobs working for Lee’s Waste Management, Ted Nugent’s Mink Farm and several companies in the Elkhart area, including Cana Cabinetry.  Jeff knew no strangers.

Jeff loved his family and friends.  Though he was a loner, he made time for those he loved.  He accepted Christ at an early age.  Jeff had one son, Anthony, and one grandson, Anthony, Jr., that he cherished, along with Tony’s fiance, Michelle, and her children Samantha, Alyson, and Elijah.

Jeff leaves to cherish his memory one son, Tony; four siblings, Walter (Becky) Deans; Judith (Lee) Williams; Barbara (Jerone) Whitaker; Armon (Gina) Deans; sister-in-law, Lois; four grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  He was preceded in death by one brother, Michael.

God saw you getting tired, And a cure was not to be,
So he put his arms around you, And whispered, “Come to me.”
With tearful eyes we watched you, And saw you pass away,
Although we loved you dearly, We could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating, Hardworking hands to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.

Family and friends will gather from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 24, 2022, in Wagner Family Funerals Connelly Chapel, 202 North Broadway Street, Cassopolis. We will then process to Bogue Cemetery, Vandalia, where Mr. Deans will be laid to rest.
