On Wednesday April 20, 2022, David Lee Schabbel went home to be with our Lord and Savior after his battle with cancer.

He was born September 13th, 1928 and was 93 on the day he went to join Christ in Heaven for eternity.

David was a lifetime resident of South Haven, MI. and would walk around town every day regardless of the weather. He enjoyed driving around South Haven and going to the north and south beach to walk the piers and was always able to see the beauty in the world around him.

David served his country in World War 2 with bravery and honor on Iwo Jima. He came home and went to work for a trucking company. He then went to work for the city of South Haven as the mechanic and draw bridge operator until he retired.

He received his pilot’s license in 1960 and loved to fly his plane to Drummond Island, he was also a certified radio operator. He enjoyed woodworking, his fish tank, traveling to Florida with his wife during their retirement and was a fierce defender of his lawn.

David’s kind and caring personality touched many people throughout his life. Even at the end he was putting a smile on the faces of the healthcare and hospice workers with how kind and happy he was.
No matter the challenge ahead, he faced it with a smile and a positive attitude.
