Dorothy “Dottie” Alice Ball Nelson passed away on April 16, 2023 after a long illness. She was born in 1931 to Cecil and Audrey Ball in Chicago. She was preceded in birth and death by her brother, Cecil Edward Ball II.
In 1953 she married Wayne Nelson. They were married for 56 years before he passed away in 2009. Between 1954 and 1962 they had three children – Terri, Tom (deceased in 2005) and Tracy. First part of their married life was spent in Chicago. Then they moved to Fenton, Michigan where they lived for 14 years. From there they moved to Coldwater, MI for a brief period, then on to Niles.
Dottie was in real estate both in Fenton and Niles until she eventually started her own Century 21 American Homes Real Estate office. After running Century 21 for years, she sold the business and decided to try her hand at mortgage brokering and then retirement, which led her back to employment as an office manager with her friend.
Dottie is survived by her daughters: Terri Grimes and Tracy Nelson Davoust; Grandchildren: Stephan (Josh) Barber, Cecilia (Robbie) Sanchez, Melissa (Brian) Smith, Casaundra (Josh) Hamrick, Stephan Davoust and Josh Davoust; Great-grandchildren: Gage Nelson-Spanninger, Kenna Smith, Bralen Smith, Sophia Smith, Gabryle Barber, Gideon Barber, Zoe Barber, Zahra Barber, Danica Hamrick, Delilah Hamrick and Christopher Sanchez.
A visitation will be held May13th at Hoven Funeral Home in Buchanan at 11am with a service at noon. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Gentiva Hospice at 1911 W Centre Rd., Portage, MI 49024 or an organization of your choice.
