Durrell Murray, affectionately known as Steve, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2023, at St Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, following a courageous battle. Born on February 4, 1970, in Dowagiac, to the late Frank and Pauline (Doyle) Murray.

Steve attended Dowagiac Union High School, where he excelled academically and formed lifelong friendships. After graduating in 1988, he went on to enlist in the United States Army. Steve married the former Deadria Hollingsworth on July 1, 1995, they were blessed with two sons. After Deadria’s passing, love once again found Steve, he married Stephanie White on August 27, 2021, in South Bend.

In his free time, Steve was a skilled handyman, capable of fixing anything that needed repair. He enjoyed working on home improvement projects, often taking on the most challenging tasks with a smile on his face. Steve’s generosity extended beyond his family and friends, as he often volunteered his time and talents to various community organizations and charities. Steve served his church in several areas, he was a deacon, Sunday School superintendent, Sunday School instructor, and was very instrumental in the vacation bible school program at Second Baptist.

Throughout his life, Steve was a loving father to his sons, Stevie, and Brendon. He instilled in them the values of hard work, generosity, and kindness, and his legacy will live on through their accomplishments and the lives they touch. Steve’s love for them knew no bounds.

Steve’s siblings were an integral part of his life, and he was always there to support and encourage them in their endeavors. He shared a special bond with each of his brothers and sisters, and his absence will leave a void in their lives that can never be filled. Steve’s memory will live on through the cherished moments and memories they shared.

As we mourn the loss of a remarkable man, we also celebrate the life of someone who truly made a difference in the lives of others. Steve’s generosity, kindness, and love for his family and friends have left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His memory will live on through the countless lives he touched, and his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Stephanie White; his devoted sons, Stevie Murray, and Brendon Murray; and his cherished siblings, Wyvonne (Carolyn) Murray, Paulette Murray, Charlotte (Emmett) McCord, Juanita (Randy) Bacon, Aaron Murray, and Darron (Carla) Murray. Steve was a kind and gentle soul who touched the lives of everyone he met. His generous spirit and warm heart will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Deadria, his parents, and an infant brother, Joseph.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, May 12, 2023, at the Second Baptist Church on Paul St. in Dowagiac, visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Riverside cemetery.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the medical staff and caregivers who provided comfort and support during Steve’s illness.
