Mary Lou Brooks, loving, compassionate, and supportive, departed from this world on August 3, 2023. Born on September 22, 1959, in Buchanan, MI, Mary lived a life that was dedicated to the service and care of others, particularly her cherished family. She resided in her hometown of Buchanan, Michigan, where she worked tirelessly as a Certified Nurse Assistant in Health Care, always ready to lend a hand and share her heart.

Mary was a woman who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had a great love for fishing, finding peace and contentment in the tranquility it offered. Mary also found immense joy in taking care of people, especially her beloved grandchildren. Her love for family was so strong that despite how she felt, she cherished family get-togethers, cookouts, Thanksgiving, and Christmas celebrations. Mary was fond of her trips to Walmart, an activity she viewed as an adventure rather than a chore. Above all, what mattered most to Mary was her family, which she nurtured with her love and dedication.

Mary is survived by her children, Jaimie Moten, Stevie Brooks, Yasmine Brooks;   siblings, Audrey (David) Moten, Emanuel (Benita) Moten Jr, Edward Moten, Darnell Moten, Andre Moten, Eric (Jamie) Moten/Quint; ex-husband, James Brooks and special sister in-law Carrie Mae Brooks; a special daughter in law Brandi Bankton, special grandchild, Mary Brooks II; a special great nephew Chris-Shawn Moten of Buchanan Michigan, a very special nephew, John (Lashond) Moten; and many grandchildren, Miracle Moten of Detroit Michigan, Marhionna Brooks of South Bend Indiana, Daquon Moten of Niles Michigan, Shonquae Brooks of Benton Harbor Michigan, Eric Moten of Buchanan Michigan, Mary Brooks ll of Buchanan Michigan, Nellie Mann-Moten of Benton Harbor Michigan, Shawntrail Brooks of Benton Harbor Michigan, Shon’Kvion Brooks of Benton Harbor Michigan, Malik Moten of Benton Harbor Michigan, and Brandi Brooks ll of Benton Harbor Michigan and nieces and nephews. A special pet she loved dearly “King”. She was preceded in death by her parents Manuel Lee-Milton Moten Sr and Ernestine Moten, sister Wanda Moten, special friend, Terry Lintz, and her grandchildren April Moten and Deveon Moten.

Visitation will be held at 12 pm on Friday, August 11, 2023 at Hoven Funeral Home. Funeral service for Mary will be held at 1 pm on Friday, August 11, 2023 at Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan, MI. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan, MI.

I would like to say a special thank you to Dr. G. Kozuh for being there and showing he cared and all the other Drs. and nurses that helped care for my mother in this time of her life.
