Larry Edwards

Just as all are destined to die once, the inevitable is once again upon us. Larry Edwards, 64, of Los Angeles, California, formerly of Benton Harbor, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 6, 2023.

Larry was born on January 18, 1959, the seventh of seven children to the union of Sylvester (Sr.) and Willie B. Edwards in the city of Edinburg, Texas. He grew up in Benton Harbor, Michigan where he attended Benton Harbor High School and played basketball on the junior varsity team.

Larry did not receive his diploma as anticipated, but later obtained his high school equivalency credentials (GED). In fact, Larry excelled in the program, to the extent that he and one other person were both invited to the Washington DC University of GED testing Center College for recognition. This inspired him to attend Lake Michigan Community College.

Afterwards, Larry relocated to Los Angeles, California for more than thirty years only to succumb to the harsh and unspeakable pitfalls of life. But, more importantly, Larry was kind, generous, and a loyal friend to those he befriended. He was a devoted son, brother, and uncle and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Preceding him in death were his parents Sylvester (Sr.) and Willie B. Edwards, his brother James Edwards, his sister Cherl Edwards and his nephew Steven Ugene Gill.

Larry leaves to cherish his memory; three brothers-Sylvester Edwards, Jr. of Benton Harbor, John O. Edwards of Stevensville, Steven Edwards of South Bend; three sisters-Alice Lancaster of Chicago, IL, Evelyn Wilburn of Newark, NJ, and Cassandra Edwards of Kalamazoo, scores of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service, 1053 East Napier Avenue, Benton Harbor, MI. 49022. In lieu of flowers, your donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in Larry’s name.
