
Robert Lee “Pete” Taylor Sr., a cherished family man and respected veteran, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of May 5, 2024, in Niles, Michigan.
Born on September 10, 1950, to the late John and Tiza (Gullett) Taylor. Pete’s life was a testament to his dedication and work ethic. After graduating from Niles High School, he served his country with honor in the United States Army, instilling in him a sense of discipline and pride. Following his military service, Pete embarked on a rewarding career as a Print Press Operator for the Niles Daily Star before continuing his career in Flint, Michigan where he retired. Pete was an avid bowler, he enjoyed participating in a bowling league and bowling in tournaments in his free time. He became a cherished member of the local community and formed lifelong friendships that he treasured long after his retirement.
Upon retirement, Pete’s love for his roots brought him back to Niles. He could often be found sharing stories of his adventures, his voice a comforting and familiar presence that echoed throughout the gatherings of those who knew him. Pete’s legacy imprinted in the hearts of all the lives he touched.
Left to honor Pete and remember his love are his adored children, Monica Grant, Leon Taylor, Deon (Lisa) Taylor, Rikki Mitchell, Martel (Julie) Taylor, and Robert Taylor Jr., several grandchildren and great grandchildren, siblings Doris Tennyson and Ronald (Marilyn) Taylor; his sister-in-law Pat Taylor; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brothers John H. Taylor and Jerry L. Taylor.
Funeral services to honor Pete’s life will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Brown Funeral Home in Niles at Noon with a time of visitation one hour prior. Pastor Andre Love will be officiating. Interment will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles.
