Barbara Ann Dixon, 76, transitioned to her heavenly home on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 in Carmel, Indiana with her loving family surrounding her.

Barbara was born on July 20, 1947, in Union City, Tennessee to the late James Childress Warford and Betty Jean (Caldwell) Warford. She and her sister Janet were raised in Tennessee and eventually settled in Niles, Michigan with their grandparents, the late Willie and Pearlee (Boyd) Caldwell.

In 1965, she proudly received her high school diploma as a graduate of Niles Senior High School. Throughout her career in the adult services and mental health field she received multiple certifications and trainings from Indiana University–South Bend, Riverwood Mental Health, Woodlands Mental Health and the State of Michigan.

Along with her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband R.C. Dixon; son, Kevin McMorris-Warford; daughter, Sheila McMorris; sister, Cynthia Warford; brothers-in-law, James Beckett Sr, Sylvester Dixon, Bobby Dixon and Willie Dixon, and sisters-in-law Lorean Dixon and Clara Yarber.

Left to cherish the memory of Barbara are her children, Keith McMorris Sr. of Niles, Michigan and Kimberly (Willis) Glover of Granger, Indiana; step-children, Terry (Leroy) King, Dion Berry and Yolanda Dixon; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; siblings, Janet Beckett (Ronald Warlick) of Michigan, Richard (Joyce) Warford, Sharon (Norman) Britton, and Lisa (Donnie) Taylor, all of Georgia, Michael (Toni) Warford of Tennessee, Timothy (Kimberley) Warford of Kentucky; her aunt, Evelyn Watts and cousin Carrie Parchmon, both of Niles, Michigan and brother-in- law, Lee Dixon of Niles, Michigan.

A circle of Life-Long “Sister Friends” whom she loved and shared everything with, Nancy J. Finch, Barbara Baker-Williams, and Karen Jones.

Barbara also shared in a sisterhood affectionately known as the “The Golden Girls” with Mae F. Jones, Emily Briggs and Betty Bridgewater, if you saw one, you saw them all. Also left to cherish her memory are a host of nieces, nephews, family, and dear friends both old and new.

Barbara was a beacon of love and care to everyone who had the pleasure of crossing her path. She professed of faith and gave her life to Christ at an early age joining with Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and later in life with Faith Apostolic Church. Her devotion to her family knew no bounds, as they were unequivocally her greatest joy. Barbara cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren, instilling in them the same values of love and family unity that she held so dear. Later in life she embraced her passion for painting and creating beautiful works of art. If you truly knew Barbara, then you would hear her say “live for now and do what makes you happy, follow your heart” for her this included spending time with her family, friends and going to the casino with her friends.

Barbara’s innate nurturing spirit extended beyond her own family. For over forty years, she owned and operated Adult Foster Care homes in Niles and Cassopolis, Michigan touching countless lives with her generosity and compassion. Her philosophy was simple: There were no strangers, only friends she hadn’t met yet.

In every role Barbara took on, her heart led the way. Her legacy is one of boundless love and care, an indelible mark that will continue to be felt by all who were fortunate enough to have been nurtured by her warmth and kindness. She was always willing to give freely to those in need.

A Funeral Service for Barbara will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024 at 11:30am at Brown Funeral Home, 521 East Main St. Niles, MI 49120.
