Irish defeat Georgia in CFP Quarterfinals, will face Penn State next
Last night the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team had that dawg in them as they defeated the Georgia Bulldogs 23 to 10 in the All-State Sugar Bowl. It was a rough start for the Irish who committed 5 penalties in the first quarter alone. They eventually found their groove and scored 10 points in just 11 seconds to go on a run and take the lead going into halftime 13 to 3. The momentum of a strong first half finished carried into the third quarter. Jayden Harrison returned the second half kickoff back 98-yards for a touchdown. Its the longest kick return in CFP history. In a span of 54-seconds Notre Dame had turned a 3-3 ballgame into a 20-3 advantage. Notre Dame would run out the third quarter and kick a field goal early in the 4th quarter, to increase its lead to 23-10. The Irish move on to face Penn State in the CFP semifinals on January 9th in the Orange Bowl.
Ole Miss wins the Gator Bowl
Ole Miss could not miss last night as they dominated the Duke Blue Devils 52 to 20 in the Tax Slayer Gator Bowl. The Rebels quarterback Jaxson Dart had himself a DAY in his final college football game throwing for 404 yards and 4 touchdowns. On top of that he had 43 yards rushing, leaving EverBank Stadium with grass and dirt stains all over his red and white uniform. The senior never considered opting out of the bowl game. Instead, he helped the Rebels make history. With the victory, Ole Miss notched double-digit wins in consecutive years for the second time in program history and the first since 1959-60.
Pacers beat the Heat
Last night the Indiana Pacers showed why Indiana is the home of basketball as they defeated the Miami Heat 128 to 115. The two man show of Tyrese Haliburton and Myles Turner had led the Pacers as Haliburton scored 33 points and handed out 15 assists, and Turner added 21 points. Miami’s Jimmy Butler scored nine points, and didn’t play in the fourth quarter for a second consecutive night. Indiana is one step closer to a 500 record as they’re now 17 and 18.
Purdue defeats Gophers
Yesterday the Purdue men’s basketball team boiled the Minnesota Golden Gophers winning 81 to 61. The Boilermakers’ Fletcher Loyer scored 24 points on 8-for-10 shooting and Braden Smith had 20 points, 10 assists and six rebounds. Trey Kaufman-Renn added 17 points for the Boilermakers, who notched their first road win of the season after losing at Marquette and Penn State. Purdue, the two-time defending regular-season Big Ten champion, has the best cumulative road record in conference play over the last three seasons at 15-7.
Hoosiers beat Rutgers
The Indiana Hoosiers men’s basketball team had their shining armor on last night as they beat the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 84 to 74. The Hoosier’s shared the love as multiple players had impressive games, Myles Rice scored 19 points, Oumar Ballo added 17 points to go with 12 rebounds, Mackenzie
M-Bach-Oh added 16 points, Trey Galloway had 11 and Luke Goode dropped nine. Indiana has won seven of its last eight games and now sit in 5th place in the Big 10 with an overall record of 11 and 3.
Berggren’s breakaway goal leads Red Wings over Blue Jackets
It was raining goals last night in Columbus, Ohio as the Detroit Red Wings eeked out a win over the Columbus Blue Jackets 5 to 4. Eric Gus-stiff-sin had a goal, Alex DeBrincat scored and had two assists, Dylan Larkin and Patrick Kane each had a goal and an assist, and Erik Gustafsson added a goal for Detroit. Jonatin Berggren scored the game-winner with just 36 seconds left in the game. Detroit’s goalie Cam Talbot had 21 saves.
