SB women facing charges for impersonating a police officer

A South Bend woman has been charged after going viral earlier this month for impersonating a police officer. 32-year-old Elizabeth Trowbridge is facing two counts of impersonating a public servant and one count of criminal mischief after she was caught on a Ring Doorbell camera impersonating a police officer and slashing someone’s tires. Trowbridge and a man in the video went to the Mishawaka Police Department the day after the incident to speak with detectives. That’s when Trowbridge reportedly told them she went to the home to retrieve a jar containing her father’s ashes that she had given to a man she had met on a dating site.

Bird Flu cases detected in Indiana

The bird flu has made its way to Indiana. The Indiana State Board of Animal Health said the outbreak in Allen and DeKalb counties is the H5N1 variant, most common in birds such as ducks or geese. And while it is contagious, there are ways to minimize the risks. Whether it’s a commercial flock or personally owned birds, the most important thing is to keep them away from wild birds. It’s also important to note, none of the eggs or meat at the grocery store are affected because flocks are tested before any products are shipped.

Braun signs order to stop adverting for Medicaid

Nearly 2 million Hoosiers rely on Medicaid, a healthcare program designed to support people with limited resources and income. But yesterday, Indiana Gov. Mike Braun signed orders to stop advertising for Medicaid. The main issue with this new Medicaid proposed plan is that people will now have to apply for eligibility to the Medicaid program quarterly when it used to be annually. This means a lot more paperwork as it will take longer to get that paperwork processed for the people. Applications are already reportedly backed up for the next 18 months.

Indiana foster couple facing charges for child abuse

An Indiana couple who fostered and adopted children are facing more than 120 charges involving children in their care. 60-year-old Brian Stafford and 60-year-old Sonja Stafford are accused of child abuse, human trafficking, strangulation and domestic battery involving the treatment of numerous children. The victims are still coming forward with complaints dating back to the ‘90s. The couple had at least 33 children in their home over the last 13 years. The couple is now behind bars in Morgan County.

59% of American’s can’t cover $1,000 in emergency expenses

A new survey from Bankrate isn’t good news. 59-percent of Americans don’t have enough savings to cover an unexpected $1-thousand emergency expense, leaving analysts to say that we’re “a paycheck-to-paycheck nation.” The most worried about this seems to be Gen Z; 80-percent of that group don’t know how they would cover their immediate expenses if they lost their primary source of income, compared with 72-percent of Gen X and Millennials. Only 58-percent of Boomers have the same concerns.

Man involved in shooting at Best Western claims self defense

The man who pulled the trigger in a deadly shooting at the Best Western in Mishawaka earlier this week, now saying he acted in self-defense. 37-year-old Justin Bonham of South Bend told police he shot 44-year-old Anthony Korolis out of fear for his safety. Korolis was found bleeding on the floor near the entrance of the hotel room with a separate gun in his hand. However, Bonham was arrested on several drug charges after meth and other substances were found in the room. Bonham remains in custody.
