Margaret Rose Wieger

Margaret Rose Wieger (Strantz), 91, of Niles, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Wellbrooke of South Bend.

Margaret was born on April 1, 1934, in South Bend, Indiana to Barbara (Berfanger) and Stephen Strantz, the youngest of 6 children. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1951 and attended the South Bend College of Commerce. On September 29, 1956, she married George F. Wieger in South Bend. They celebrated 29 years of marriage before George’s passing in 1986.

Margaret devoted 22 years of service to the United States Postal Service, Niles branch as the window clerk, retiring on her birthday in 1999. A woman of deep faith, she was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Niles. She was also proud to serve as past President of the German Club, D.F.V. Ladies Auxiliary in South Bend and a member of the Postal Workers Union.

Margaret enjoyed playing Euchre with family, dancing, going to the casino, and spending time in her yard. She and her husband, George, hosted many large Wieger family reunions at their home. Family often enjoyed her zucchini casserole; a recipe that has been shared many times over. More than anything, she loved her family and cherished time spent with them.

She was blessed with three children, Laura (Eric) Kraig of Anacortes, WA, George S. (Katherine) Wieger of Niles and Michael (deceased) (Marisa) Wieger of Niles. Among her other blessings were four granddaughters, Gretchen (Mike) Turner, Frieda (Chris) Fuhrmann, Ingrid Ryan, Megan Wieger and four grandsons, Matthew (Kalie) Wieger, Brian Wieger, Jacob Wieger (deceased) and Dallas Wieger; three great-granddaughters, Adlie, Emrie and Macie Wieger; four great-grandsons, Jack and George Turner, Thomas Ryan, Arthur Fuhrmann and special nieces, Janet Baker and Judy Kitkowski.

She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Anne Strantz, Frances Wozniak, Stephen Strantz, Edward Strantz and John Strantz.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Parish, 219 S. State St., Niles, MI. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend, IN. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service, from 10-11 am, also at the church.
