David Henry Reits, 79, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2026, in Mishawaka, Indiana.
David was born on December 19, 1946 in Paw Paw, Michigan to the late Donald C. Reits and Lorna J. (Smith) Reits.
Along with his parents, David was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sandra Elizabeth (Dunlap) Reits; son, Robbie Landis, and brother-in-law, William Wilson.
Left to cherish the memory of David are his children, Randy (Debra) Landis, Rick (Patricia) Landis, and Sherrie (Randy) Reits-Clem; 12 grandchildren, Abigail (Jay) Loomis, Brandi (Jason) Carnes, Tyler (Hanna) Santuro, Rachel (Tyler) Firestone, Mary Landis, Justin Landis, Christopher (Nora) Anderson, Nathan Baker, Brittany McKittrick, Joshua McKittrick, Christopher McKittrick, and Katherine McKittrick; 7 great grandchildren, Addison, Brycen, Liam, Charlotte, Corby, Rory, and Bodie (preceded in death), Gregory, Taylor, Benjamin, Mathew, and Zoey; sister, Judith Wilson, and special friend, Millie Peterson.
David lived a life defined by service, hard work, and a deep love for the outdoors. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, carrying that sense of dedication and commitment with him throughout his life.
While David earned his living driving a semi-truck for 40 years, farming was David’s true passion. He could often be found on his tractor from sunrise to sunset, happiest when working the land he loved and being of service to the community. A lifelong outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, embracing every opportunity to spend time in nature.
When he wasn’t in the fields or outdoors, David pursued his favorite hobby, ham radio. He held a general ham license, callsign KD8CSQ, and was NCS for the Saltminers on 7.2841, connecting with his best friends daily. Traveling brought him great joy as well, and he cherished the memories made along the way.
David will be remembered for his strong work ethic, adventurous spirit, mechanical abilities, great sense of humor, and the deep pride he took in serving his country and living life fully. Those who knew him well are blessed to have known him.
Memorial contributions in honor of David may be made out to the VFW.
