Lillie Pauline McGuire, lovingly known as “Pauline,” passed away peacefully on May 4, 2026, at the age of 87, surrounded by her family. Pauline spent most of her life in Coloma, Michigan, living in the same home for 71 years—a place filled with decades of memories, love, and family.

Pauline married the love of her life, Robert McGuire, in June of 1955 at the age of 17. He preceded her in death, along with three of their children, Debbie McGuire-Kloko (Lynn Kloko) Mark McGuire, and Tamy McGuire (Sherman Harding). She is survived by her son, Zane McGuire (Barbara), as well as eight grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Pauline earned her master’s degree in education from Western Michigan University and devoted 35 years to teaching in Covert Public Schools. She also served as president of the teachers union, advocating for her fellow educators and the students she cared so deeply about. After her time in the classroom, she continued her service to the community by running the Covert Library for over 10 years. Through her determination and dedication, she was instrumental in securing significant support and donations for a new library—an accomplishment that continues to benefit the community today. It is no exaggeration to say that Covert’s library stands as part of Pauline’s lasting legacy.

A woman of many talents, Pauline was a poet, painter, author, and correspondent. Her writings were published in Woman’s Day, the Herald Palladium, the Tri-City Record, and numerous other publications. Creativity flowed through her in countless forms, and she shared that gift freely with others. She made a lasting impact on so many lives, especially her students.

Pauline was also a beloved and familiar presence at The Bend in Coloma, where she became something of a local icon. She was known for her unforgettable stories—and for her “paddle,” a detail that will bring a knowing smile to those who knew her best. She carried a song in her heart and sang every day until the very end, with “One Day at a Time, Sweet Jesus” becoming a favorite in her later years.

Pauline lived a full and meaningful life, marked by dedication, creativity, and deep love for her family and community. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
