Darla was born July4, 1946, in Pocahontas, Arkansas. She spent most of her lifetime in Michigan. She worked in the health care field caring for the elderly in their homes and as intake for Intercare. When Darla wasn’t working she enjoyed crafting with her husband William and attending craft shows. She was a master seamstress, made doll clothes and teddy bears, and created wreathes. Darla also enjoyed the outdoors either in her garden or camping and traveling. Above all her hobbies she will be remembered for being a good cook and even better mom.

She leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory including: her husband of 39 years William Strong; two children Lisa Mathis (Thomas Ufkes) and Shawn Mathis (Tricia Stewart); three step children Becky Deering, Daniel Strong, and Lisa Hoopes; 16 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three siblings Gayla Angel, Bob Tippen, and Charlie Tippen; and many nieces and nephews.

Darla died Friday, May 8, 2026, at home surrounded by family. She is preceded in death by a daughter Teresa Wilcoxson, a granddaughter Christina, her parents George and Devona Tippen, and six siblings.

Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet is assisting Darla’s family with cremation. Her family will celebrate her life Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at 11:00 AM at First Congregational Church in Bangor, 125 Charles Street, Bangor, MI 49013. You are invited to leave a message of comfort for Darla’s family.
