Ernest “Daddy B” McCall Sr., 81, of Benton Harbor, passed away at Hanson Hospice Center on Monday, January 20, 2020, following a brief illness.
Ernest was born on March 3, 1938, to the late Joseph McCall and Corine Miller in Arkansas.
After graduating high school Ernest worked for many years for Whirlpool Corporation in Benton Harbor as well as other local factories. He also spent some of his final working years at Benton Harbor Public Schools. In his time when not working, Ernest loved to sing and could always be found with a smile, never complaining. As an integral member of the Benton Harbor community, Ernie B was vital as a volunteer working in soup kitchens and visiting those in hospitals and nursing home, often picking people up to ride with him. Ernie B never missed an opportunity to play the lottery, especially his daily three and four digit numbers.
In June 1959, he married Judith and from this union was born five children, Ernest Jr., Laura Ann, Brian, Leslie and Yolanda.
He was preceded in death by his parents; former wife, Judith McCall; and sister, Patricia Rimpson.
Ernest is survived by his children, Ernest (Cindy) McCall Jr. of Niles, Laura Ann McCall of Waukegan, Illinois, Brian K. McCall of Buchanan, Leslie McCall of Niles, Yolanda (Bryant) Duncan of Gurnee, Illinois, Dion and Latoya Branch both of Benton Harbor; eight grandchildren, Chalanda (Craig) Johnson, Cyntoya McCall, Jordan Duncan, Brielle Duncan, Aliyah McCall, Janay McCall, Shilas McCall, Jalen Beck and Xzavier Brown; siblings, Roger Miller of Benton Harbor and James McCall of St. Louis, Missouri; special nieces, Shunta Rimpson, Rochelle Powell and Michelle Hogan; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and countless lives and hearts he touched.
A time of visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at Brown Funeral Home in Niles.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, January 27, 2020 at Beautiful Gate Baptist Church in Benton Harbor with a time of visitation beginning at 11:00 AM.
