
Virginia “Ginnie” Rice, 85, of St. Joseph, died Friday morning, June 17, 2016 at West Woods of Bridgman.
Services celebrating her life will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, June 22, at Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in Benton Harbor. Burial will follow in Watervliet Cemetery. The visitation will be from 5 PM to 8 PM on Tuesday at the Fairplain Chapel. Memorials in her memory may be made to the family. Please share memories, messages, or photos at www.florin.net.
Ginnie was born in Steele, MO on Nov. 9, 1930 to Lewis and Elva (Akridge) Lowrey. She married Laverne Rice in 1949 and he preceded her in death in 1987. Together they celebrated 37 years of marriage. She especially enjoyed flower design and worked part time at Midway florists for 23 years and then at Bunting House of Flowers for a short time. Ginnie was a member of the Rebekahs and a volunteer at Lakeland Medical Center for 30 years. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and needle point. Ginnie also enjoyed traveling to all the National Parks and she worked during the summer at several of them. She also traveled to the Dominican Republic with her church group to build a church. She also loved sending cards to all her relatives and friends. Ginnie loved caring for her family and spending time with them.
Her family includes her daughter, Pam (Steve) Griese of Lafayette, IN and her son, George (Sue) Rice of St. Joseph; her 3 grandchildren, Christopher, Joshua and Nicholas; her sisters, Betty Wuflestad and Jerri Adams; her brother, David (Mary) Lowrey, and her several nieces and nephews.
