William P. Steele, age 64, of Cassopolis, died peacefully at home early in the morning of September 26, 2016 in the peace and comfort of his family.
He was born June 4, 1952 in Porter Township, Michigan to Alvin and Doris (Brown) Steele. He married Rosemary Marie Gillam December 18, 2015 in Porter Township. She survives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Loraine Beathea and Vivian Steele; and one brother, Richard Steele.
Bill loved his family, traveling and riding motorcycles. He was a passionate person who loved people, whether giving advice, helping someone or just talking to them. Bill was very talented and could fix anything. People knew that if they couldn’t repair something they should “call Bill.” He was a self-employed contractor who also served as a Building Inspector in Cass County, including the Village of Cassopolis, the Village of Vandalia and the townships of Penn and Porter.
Bill will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary (Gillam) Steele of Cassopolis; three daughters, Sherise Steele of West Bloomfield, Michigan, Angel (Lawrence Carter) Steele of Lewisville, Texas, Rashena Anderson of Niles; seven grandchildren, Amiri A. Walker, Cicely A. Walker, Na’em Smith, Sanaa Smith, Jayden Anderson, Kalen Johnson, Jason Johnson; four sisters, Alma Glover of Elkhart, Indiana, Lois Douglas and Anne Steele both of Georgia, Helen (Ellis) Gray of Elkhart, Indiana; four brothers, Dan Aqwa, Bruce (Verdell) Steele, Brent (Debbie) Steele, all of Georgia, and the Reverend Steven (Brenda) Steele of Jones, Michigan; his first wife, Brenda Steele of Dallas, Texas; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. for a Memorial Service in Church of Cassopolis, 520 Pearl Street, Cassopolis, with the Apostle Christopher J. Pittman and Bill’s brother, the Reverend Steven Steele, officiating.
The family prefers contributions in Bill’s memory to Calvin Township, for the Paul and Azurea Steele Memorial Park, 18693 Mt. Zion Street, Cassopolis, Michigan 49031.
