
Luella was born on August 10, 1922 in Watervliet to Robert and Pauline Wendzel. She grew up in Southwest Michigan and married Arden Winkel on November 7, 1942. Together they raised four children on a fruit farm in Hartford where they worked side by side raising crops and beekeeping. She was a lifelong member of Salem Lutheran Church in Coloma where she was an active participant.
In her spare time she enjoyed visiting with neighbors and friends along with playing cards and dominoes. Her greatest love was spending time with her family which includes: three sons Rodney (Jeanette) of Watervliet, Barry (Lyn) of South Haven and Kevin (Roxanne) of Hartford; a daughter Ardene (Steve Martin) of Dimondale; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two brothers Alton (Mildred) Wendzel of Watervliet and Kenneth (Leola) Wendzel of Benton Harbor; two sisters Eleanor (Walt Klug) of Sodus and Virginia (Boyd Brewer) of Brownstown, IN.
Luella died Friday, December 23, at Woodland Terrace Assisted Living Facility in Coloma. She is preceded in death by her husband Arden in 2003 and two brothers Walter and Norman Wendzel. Friends may visit with Luella’s family Monday, December 26, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet. Funeral services will be celebrated Tuesday, December 27, at 11:00 AM at Salem Lutheran Church in Coloma. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery in Hartford.
