STACEY MICHQUELL MCCREE January 13, 1980- January 8, 2017
“To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven: A time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to pluck what has been planted” Ecclesiastes 3:(1-2)
A TIME TO BE BORN
Stacey Michquell McCree was born on January 13, 1980, in St. Joseph, Michigan, to the Christian lineage of the late Johnny Lee McCree Sr. and Enola (Kennedy) McCree. She and her twin was the second and third of four children born to this union. She was preceded in death by her beloved father, maternal grandparents, Moses Kennedy and Sylvia Mumphrey and her paternal grandparents, Albert and Elizabeth McCree.
A TIME TO PLANT
Stacey grew up in Benton Harbor, Michigan, where she was formally educated in the Benton Harbor Area Schools. She attended Boynton Montessori Magnet School, McCord Renaissance Middle School and graduated from Benton Harbor High School with the Class of 1998.
In high school, Stacey was very active and participated in several school organizations and activities. She was a member of the Del-Teens, the Jane Addams Chapter of the National Honor Society, Tiger Marching Band and very active in athletics. She was the recipient of Varsity letters in volleyball, softball and was a proud member of the “Lady Tigers Basketball Team” where she played point guard under the guidance of Coach Louis Harvey and Sheryl Finley.
Upon graduation from high school, Stacey attended Lake Michigan College where she continued her athletic prowess as a member of the Lake Michigan College “Lady Indians Basketball Team” under the leadership of Coach Bloodworth.
She later obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Sanford Brown College-Atlanta in Atlanta, Georgia and was employed at Emory Medical Center until her untimely passing.
Stacey knew that Christianity did not exempt one from death but that it ensured triumph over it. At the age of six years old, Stacey accepted Christ as her personal Savior at the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral guidance of the late Pastor Walter L. Brown. At Ebenezer, Stacey was a member of the Ambassadors For Christ and was a lead singer in the choir with her twin where they were known for singing “Move On Up the Mountain”.
She became a proud member of the Youth for Christ Community Choir under the leadership of Gwen Norwood and David Brock and traveled to Nashville, Tennessee, with the choir to sing on the Bobby Jones Show and participated with the choir as they won the first place in the choir competition in Kalamazoo, Michigan, she loved gospel music and loved being a member of the choir.
Upon moving to Atlanta, she did not depart from her spiritual upbringing as evident by her uniting with the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Bishop Eddie Long. She loved the Lord and always made sure that she gave Him her time.
Stacey lived life her way and was very serious about education. One of her proudest accomplishments in this life was that of being the loving mother to her four children and it was her desire that they too be formally educated and that they were taken care of properly. She will truly be missed.
