Latonya Michelle Lane affectionately known by many as Auntie Tonya was born to the Late Presiding Bishop James L. Lane and the Late Mother Katherine Lane in Caruthersville, MO on March 3, 1974. At an early age, Latonya was saved and baptized in Jesus’ name under her father’s leadership at New Life Deliverance Temple Church. Growing up as a teenager, she sang for years in the group known as The Young Angels. This was orchestrated by her brother, the Late Elder John A. Lane. The group was comprised of Serena Wade, Monica Cobb, and Schylon Lane.
She attended and graduated from Caruthersville High School in May 1993.
Latonya later moved to Benton Harbor, MI in 1998 with her brother and sister-in-law, Bishop Leroy and Denise Lane. She became a faithful member under his leadership, still actively singing in the church and working in the pastor aid department.
Latonya was well known for her angelic voice and often sung the songs of Zion such as: Pass Me Not Gentle Savior, Come and Go to That Land and I will Trust in the Lord. Latonya wrote and recorded her first song, In the Mist of the Storm in 1999. Latonya would always sing praises and worked with children’s choirs and groups encouraging singing wherever she would go.
Latonya was always a happy person and held long employments with Lakeland Regional Hospital, Benton Harbor Charter School, and The Loft (Boys & Girls Club). Through these entities and beyond, Latonya encountered friendships among so many people. Throughout the years, Latonya health started to fail and despite medical complications, she always would leave laughter and a smile on someone’s face.
After battling a two ½ months hospital stay, Latonya departed this life on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at 7:22 a.m. at Select Specialty Hospital in Battle Creek, MI.
