Karen A. Bower, a loving, thoughtful, and courageous woman, passed away on June 5, 2023, in Dowagiac, Michigan, after a brave battle with cancer. Born on May 12, 1959, in Paw Paw, Michigan to the late Charles and Sarah (Lillie) Mott, Karen’s life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and the importance of treasuring every moment spent with loved ones.

Karen’s early years were filled with the love and support of her family, which included her husband, Roger Bower to whom she married on Christmas Eve 1988; her daughter, Hollie Mott (Jimmy Garland); step-daughter, Jennifer Bower; grandchildren Ana, Garrett, and Sawyer Lennen; great-granddaughter Lydia; sisters, Debbie (Larry) Tumbleson, Linda (Larry) Smith, and Pam (Craig) Black; and many nieces and nephews. Karen was predeceased by her beloved brothers Scott and Douglas Mott, as well as her cherished cat, Sam.

After graduating high school, Karen embarked on a career working in local factories, where she demonstrated her strong work ethic and dedication to providing for her family.

Karen’s passion for life was evident in her many interests, which included shopping at antique stores and flea markets, going to casinos – with special trips to Las Vegas, taking cruises and participating in craft days with her family. She also had a deep love for her cats, with Sam being her favorite feline companion. Above all, Karen’s greatest joy came from the time spent with her family, particularly her grandchildren, who brought immense happiness and light to her life.

In the face of adversity, Karen remained a beacon of hope, love, and strength for all those who knew her. Her courageous spirit and unwavering determination to live life to the fullest will forever serve as an inspiration to those who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her.

A service to celebrate Karen’s life will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 11:00a.m. at Mission Hills Memorial Chapel at 61453 M51 in Niles with a time of visitation beginning at 10:00a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made in Karen’s memory to Hidden Acres Safe Haven at 50582 Pleasant St. Dowagiac, Michigan 49047.
