Jeanne Stephanie (Higgs) Buford

Jeanne Stephanie Buford-Moore 66 of Benton Harbor, Michigan departed this life on Monday, September 25, 2023. She was born on April 15, 1957, to Helen Hicks Davis and Jack Stepter in Chicago, Illinois.

At the young age of four years old tragedy struck leaving Jeanne disabled, but she never allowed her disability to stop her. She completed high school in Benton Harbor High where she then went on to do some college and career training for the hearing impaired while becoming proficient in lip reading. After graduation, she pursued working at Red Roof Inn where she was employed for 10-plus years. While also being a homemaker, Jeanne was passionate about cooking, creating designs, and maintaining a clean, beautiful home in which she kept her doors open for family, and loved ones where she loved to see them gathered and together.

She was married once but then met the love of her life, Richard Lee Moore. They met in 1985 where they shared in agape love and stayed together for 28 years in that loving relationship and marriage until his death in 2013.

Jeanne had a heart of gold anytime you saw her. She was sure to be smiling from ear to ear with the most beautiful smile and abundant glow with an ever-present sense of humor and infectious laugh. She was known for being a very sharp fancy, classy dresser matched to tea. She was also known for her knack for interior decorating, and do-it-yourself projects which she loved.

She was also the very best mother to her only child, nurturing and caring with unconditional love we forged a bond that was our very own. She was the pillar, an example of strength while fighting through lifelong health issues that she would never want anyone to know existed through those battles. She was always still able to instill in me, the values of love, kindness, responsibility, knowledge, and most of all her strength, while beholding, God, love, and grace in our home the epitome of a beautiful spirit.

Jeanne leaves to cherish her memories her only child Jeanise Driver; 2 grandchildren Nevaeh Stephanie-Ann Roberts and Martez Roberts Junior; 4 sisters, Naomi Smith, Sharon Wysinger, Helen Higgs, and Veronica Sims Duffie, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents Helen Higgs-Davis and Jack Stepter, one brother James Higgs, a sister Barber Lashure last, but not least her husband, Richard Lee Moore.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Robbins Brothers Funeral Home, Benton Harbor.
