Maria Cruz Salgado, 88, passed away September 28, 2023 at Ascension Saint Alexius in Hoffman Estates, IL. Born July 4, 1935 in the rural mountain region in The State of Michoacan, Mexico to the late Salvador Sanchez and Mercedes Barajas Sanchez.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 6, 2023 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Filbrandt Chapel in South Haven. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Basil’s Catholic Church on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow the funeral mass at Monks Cemetery, Geneva Township.
Maria married her late husband, Rafael Salgado, on January 6, 1955 in Mexico. He preceded her in death along with her parents, 1 daughter, Elfega Salgado-Franco, and 2 sisters, Maria Gonzalez and Guadalupe Bucio, and 1 brother, Austreberto Sanchez.
She is survived by 4 sons, Felberto (Guadalupe) Salgado, Rogelio (Ofelia) Salgado, all of Streamwood, IL; Jose Luis (Evelia) Salgado, Chicago, IL, and Ruben (Teresa) Salgado of South Haven. She leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 19 great- grandchildren. Also surviving are 3 brothers, Enrique, Roberto, Serefin Sanchez and 3 sisters, Celerina Bucio, Beatriz Enriquez, and Alicia Salgado.
Maria grew up in the rural area of Michoacan, Mexico. She was a homemaker and a proud loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and many friends she has made through the years.
