Thomas T. Mooney, 81, of Buchanan, MI passed away at Hanson Hospice Center Stevensville, MI on October 17, 2023. Born to the late Walter and Lydia (Otto) Mooney October 15,1942 in Queens. NY. His family moved to a farm on Freehling Rd in Buchanan, MI in 1949. Aunts, uncles, and cousins from New York came to visit in the summers and Tom had many happy memories from those days. Tom attended Hills School and New Troy High School. Tom served in the US Army. He married Virginia Stelter in 1967. They had 3 Children, Patricia Mooney-Carson, Tim, and Brian Mooney. They grew a big garden and enjoyed working on their farm. He was employed by Clark Equipment and Preimer Tool and Die and later on Brookwood Golf Course. Tom loved golfing with friends and especially with Dougie and Stevie, his grandsons. Tom was a continuous member of the American Legion Post #345 for 55 years. And was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Tom’s lifelong friends: Karl Spitzer, Leroy and Ollie Jane Rosenthal, Ken Schutze, sister in law Pat, nephew Scott Stelter, sisters Pat Whitt and Barbara Lausch, and nephew Dan Lausch all came to comfort him. Pastor Liebach was at his side on his 81st birthday with his friends and family singing the birthday song and Hymns to him.
He is survived by his 3 children, beloved grandchildren, Douglas (Jackie), Hannah, and Steven Carson; siblings, Walter (Geraldine) J. Mooney Jr, Barbara (Jerry) Lausch, and Patricia Whitt; sisters in law, Marylou Svorec, Evelyn Basel, Emily (Ed) Kast, Pat Stelter; and brothers in law, Leslie Stelter and Ron Irwin. He also was loved by many nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn, and father and mother.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held by the family at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Glendora November 4, 2023 at 11am. Everyone to gather afterwards to share and celebrate Tom’s life. Memorial contributions can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church and Hanson Hospice Center.
