Mrs. Annette O. Shaw was born on April 6, 1929, to the union of the late William Brantley and Aldie Banks Brantley, in Fordyce, Arkansas. She was the youngest child of their seven girls, which were referred to as his “Flower Garden” by their father.
In This Life: Annette attended and graduated from the Dallas County Training School in Fordyce (Dallas County). She played basketball while attending. After migrating from the south to Chicago with her sisters, in 1950 she united in marriage with Chester C. Shaw. They raised 3 sons: Chester Cornell Shaw, Christopher A. Shaw, and Andre B. Shaw while residing in South Bend, Indiana and Niles, Michigan. During their life together, Annette worked at the Notre Dame Medical Arts Library (now Hesburg) and was a Licensed Cosmetologist doing hair for over 35 years. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, sewing, fishing, gardening, holidays, and spending time with family and hosting family gatherings. They were active members of Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church of South Bend and Mount Calvary Baptist Church of Niles, Michigan under leadership of Pastor Bryant Bacon, at which she enjoyed singing in the choirs as well. Annette was a devoted mother and grandmother, and the two were married 66 years until Mr. Chester C. Shaw was called to rest on November 29, 2016.
The Will of God: Along with her parents and husband, their son Chester Cornell Shaw, her six sisters: Fannie Celia Nunley, Mabel Sue Williams, Louise Fairchild, Georgia Walker, Willie Geneva Brantley, Mary Margarie Brantley, and her grandson Contrell L. Shaw all preceded her in Death. Annette was born into eternity on Friday, February 2, 2024.
In Celebration of Life: Annette leaves to cherish her memory two sons: Christopher A. Shaw of South Bend, IN, and Andre B. Shaw, of Niles, MI; nine grandchildren: Cameron Shaw of Dallas, TX, Aisha Flournoy of South Bend, IN, Christopher and Keith (Brittney) Shaw both of Cincinnati, OH, Chasity Shaw of Houston, TX, Andrea (Robert) Brown of Detroit, MI, Sunsea (Martell) Williams of Lawrenceville, GA, Courtney Shaw of Indianapolis, IN, and Tempest Shaw of South Bend, IN; twelve great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
