Nathaniel “Nate” D. Bedford Sr., 59, of Niles, Michigan, passed away on October 13, 2024. Born on February 23, 1965, in Saginaw, Michigan, to Nathan Baker and Gloriastine Spain-Darby and raised by Joseph and Lillie Bennett. Nathaniel was a man whose life was marked by dedication, warmth, and an unwavering commitment to his loved ones and community.

Nate was a proud graduate of Niles High School, class of 1983. His work ethic and skill were evident in his long-standing career with Amtrak Railroad, where he not only contributed to the safety and comfort of countless travelers but also formed lasting friendships and associations.

Nate’s passion for life was paralleled by his love for bowling, a sport in which he not only excelled but also found great joy and camaraderie. He was a familiar face at the local bowling alleys, often surrounded by friends and sharing laughter over a good game.

Above all, Nathaniel cherished the time spent with his family and friends. He was a pillar of hospitality at his church, Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, always ready to welcome newcomers with open arms and a warm smile. His presence at family gatherings was a source of comfort and joy, and his guidance as a father and grandfather was both gentle and wise.

Nate leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his son, Nathaniel Bedford Jr.; his grandchildren, Drake Bedford R.J. Collins, Myah Collins, and Mycah Miles and his namesake grandson, Nathaniel Bedford as well as siblings, Christine Wilson, Ernestine Taylor, Eulah Adams, Willie Cherry, Almeta Jackson, and Robert Cherry, bonus son, Jarquay Hillsman and favorite cousin, Mark Adams. He was preceded in death by his father, Nathan Baker; his mother, Gloriastine Darby; and his beloved daughter, Victoria Roland-Bedford.

Homegoing services for Nate will be held at Mount Calvary Baptist Church on Friday, October 25, 2024 at 12:00pm. There will be an hour of visitation held before the service from 11:00am till 12:00pm.
