Dorothy Mae Ward-Vinson was born on December 24,1949 to the late Darnell Ward and Lauretta Wilson in Shaw, Mississippi. She accepted Christ at an early age.

Dorothy attended McEvans High School, located in Shaw, Mississippi. She briefly worked for Head Start in her early years, but mostly a homemaker for her family.

Dorothy united in holy matrimony to James H. Vinson, Sr. on October 18, 1968 and to this union 7 children were born. Dorothy was blessed to live to be a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She taught them the importance of the Bible and knowing your family. Dorothy’s favorite thing to do was see her family bowl. She enjoyed cooking, watching her soap operas and old western’s on television. No matter how she was feeling, when asked up until God called her home, her answer would be, “I’M ALRIGHT”.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories with her husband of 56 years, James H.Vinson Sr., 2 daughters Mildred and Debra Vinson of Benton Harbor,MI. 4 sons:: Antonio(Monique)Vinson of Savannah, GA, Timmie(Tiffany)Vinson Sr, James H.Vinson, Jr of Benton Harbor, MI and Danny Vinson of Lapeer, MI. She leaves behind a special granddaughter, Markita Vinson, along with 28 Grandchildren, 29 Great Grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.Siblings: 2 sisters, Tossie of Chicago, Illinois, Margaret Thomas of Niles, MI, Johnny(Veronica) Ward, John Ward, and Ivory Ward all of Benton Harbor,MI.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, son-Michael Vinson, Sr, 1 sister Dolly Wilson, 2 brothers Sam Gye and Jessie Gye, nephew- Jimmie Townes, brother in law- Odell Thomas and mother in law Mattie Vinson-Hardin(who help raise her)

Arrangements have been entrusted to Robbins Brothers Funeral Home, Benton Harbor.
