“Irish Wear Green Game” to be on October 4th against Boise State
For the fourth year in a row, the Notre Dame football team will wear green in South Bend. In a social media post on Friday morning, Notre Dame announced that the 2025 “Irish Wear Green Game” will be on October 4 against Boise State. It appears the team will wear the green pants once again after donning white pants with the green jerseys in last year’s “Irish Wear Green” game against Louisville. The “Irish Wear Green” game has become an annual tradition since Marcus Freeman took over as head coach in 2022. Notre Dame is 2-1 in those games, with the lone loss coming in 2023 in a 17-14 heartbreaker to Ohio State that many fans remember for the infamous “10 men on the field” gaffe at the end of the game. Notre Dame kicks off its regular season on August 31 at Miami.
South Bend Cubs beat QC
The South Bend Cubs earned a split in their series with Quad Cities, winning yesterday 6-2. South Bend put five runs on the board in the eighth inning, capped by Brian Kalmer’s two-run home run. The Cubs remain just three games back of both Beloit and Quad Cities for the Midwest League West division’s second half playoff berth. Cubs pitching also did not allow an earned run, giving South Bend a 22-inning streak without an earned run conceded. South Bend will stay home this week for a series against Fort Wayne starting tomorrow night at 7:05 PM.
Turner’s sends Cubs over O’s
Justin Turner hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning to give the Chicago Cubs a 5-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. Turner drove the first pitch he saw from Keegan Akin, a 92.8 mph fastball, deep to left-center for the game-ending shot. It was Turner’s third homer of the season. Chicago took two of three in the weekend set against Baltimore. The Cubs stayed two games back of NL Central-leading Milwaukee, which won 14-3 at Washington. Michael Soroka makes his Cubs debut tonight at 8:05 PM against the Cincinnati Reds. Soroka was acquired in a trade with Washington on Thursday.

The Chicago White Sox have placed INF Miguel Vargas on the 10-day injured list because of a left oblique strain. Vargas was scratched Chicago’s 1-0 victory over the Angels on Saturday night. Vargas is batting .229 with 13 homers and 44 RBI’s in 106 games for the Sox.

Colts RB Ahmed carted off after leg injury
Indianapolis Colts veteran running back Salvon Ahmed, taken down by a defender with an illegal hip-drop tackle, suffered a severe lower right leg injury in Sunday’s training camp practice and was immediately taken to a hospital for X-rays. The play happened during what the Colts describe as a developmental period, meaning tackling was allowed. Ahmed took a handoff and broke free before being chased down from behind as he crossed the goal line by undrafted free agent Trey Washington. Hip-drop tackles were banned last season because of the high number of lower body injuries that occur as a result of the technique.
Bears defense dominates “Family Fest Scrimmage”
Coach Ben Johnson told reporters that the Bears treated Sunday’s Family Fest practice at Soldier Field like a “preseason zero game,” staying at a hotel in downtown Chicago Saturday night. The defense excelled in 11-on-11 drills most of the day, with a litany of individuals generating impact plays. End Austin Booker and blitzing nickel back Kyler Gordon recorded what would have been sacks, Montez Sweat recorded what would have been a sack and stuffed a jet sweep, and linebacker T.J. Edwards broke up a pass intended for rookie tight end Colston Loveland. One drill started with the offense at its own 1. Defensive tackle Gervon Dexter Sr. burst through the line and tackled running back D’Andre Swift for a safety, something head coach Ben Johnson said was inexcusable.
