Ernest “Ernie” Shoemaker, 68, of Dowagiac, formerly of Bangor, passed away at his home, Thursday, May 7, 2026.
Ernie’s Celebration of Life Services will take place Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 2:00 P.M., graveside at Sacred Heart Cemetery, 51841 Leach Rd., Dowagiac. Memorial contributions can be made to Clark Chapel. Those wishing to leave an online condolence for the family may do so at www.clarkch.com.
Ernie was born May 15, 1957, in South Haven, MI, to Bert and Mary (Cushway) Shoemaker. Ernie and his family are proud members of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians. He attended Bangor High School, where he successfully competed in multiple sports and after graduation, spent his career working in construction. Ernie enjoyed being a father and raising his daughter, Heather Michelle Shoemaker.
Ernie will be missed by his daughter – Heather Shoemaker – Weber; granddaughters – Hannah Weber and Ava Weber; siblings – Margaret O’Keefe, Lee Falk, Eva Hoekstra, Hal Weatherwax, Ann Morton, Theresa Barber, Tim Wallin, and Marie Cuendet; and many nieces and nephews who he dearly loved.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents – Bert and Mary Shoemaker; and siblings – Stella Heffington, Marcella O’Keefe, Johnny O’Keefe, and Mary Watson.
Ernie will be missed dearly by all those who knew and loved him and, will think of him every time they see beautiful flowers, as he was known for his flower cultivation and gardening.
