
Skip Strieter, age 86, of LaPorte, Indiana, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, May 16, 2017 in St. Joseph, Michigan, in the presence and comfort of his family.
Skip was born June 16, 1930, in LaPorte, Indiana, the son of Adolph and Ethel (Kiff) Strieter. Skip graduated from L.P. High School in 1948 and shortly after enlisted in the United States Air Force. Skip was a crew chief on the F-86, F-104, and P-51, completed his training and engineering at Luke AFB and Shepherd AFB. He was honorably discharged at the end of the Korean Conflict while based in Chicago. He then went on to work at Strieter’s Sales and Service known as “the store that service built” until he retired.
In 1963 Skip and Harriet purchased 80 acres on Starr Rd. in Three Oaks. Friends and relatives reffered to the land as “the pondy”. Numerous friends and relatives spent their weekends enjoying the cabin and the lake dubbed “Lake Marshall”. They enjoyed the pig roasts, live music, cranes, bulldozers, tractors, and motorcycles. Skip and Harriet also owned the Village Pump in Three Oaks and were blessed to make great lifelong friends throughout their ventures.
Skip was a avid hunter, loved slalom and trick skiing and entered many water skiing competitions with his sister Pat. After retirement he enjoyed master gardening and spending time with his sons and their families.
He will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by: his former wife Harriet who was a devoted loving friend, sons Mark (Susan) Strieter and Clay (Tracy) Strieter; his grandchildren: Brett, Alexandra, Pearl; his great-grandchildren: Ambrie and Knox; his sister Pat Storrer; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Skip is preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers and five sisters.
Family and friends will gather Sunday, May 21, 2017 from (Michigan Time) 1:00 p.m.until the time of the Funeral at 3:00 p.m. at Pobocik Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 106 Ash Street East, Three Oaks, Michigan 49128. The Reverend John Williams will be officiating.
Skip will be laid to rest in Patton Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorial contributions be made in Skip Strieter’s memory to: American Legion Post 204, 204 W. Linden Street, Three Oaks, Michigan 49128; or: River Valley Senior Center Meals on Wheels, 13321 Red Arrow Highway, Harbert, Michigan 49115.
