Tyree Wilburn

Tyree Wilburn of Benton Harbor MI, transitioned on January 22, 2018 in Battle Creek, MI. His Legacy farewell service will be on Saturday February 3, 2018 at 1105 E Main St, Benton Harbor, MI at Pilgrim Rest Church, with visitation starting at 11:00 am and services beginning at 12:00 noon.

Tyree Wilburn was born May 26, 1938 to the late Rev. Chester I Wilburn, Sr and Lillie Wilburn, Buntyn.  He attended the Benton Harbor Area public schools.  He was a 1957 graduate of Benton Harbor High School. He served in US Navy and was honorably discharged.  He attended Lake Michigan Community College, and DeVry school of Electrical Engine where earned a degree and became a master Electrician.

He worked at Auto specialist while continuing his education.  Upon completion he became an Electrician and worked until it closed, immediately after closing he worked as an Engineer for 32 years at General Motors, Portage, Mich. where he retired.

Tyree was an entrepreneur he owned his own restaurant called Mr. T’s Bar-B-Q and operated several businesses his passion was building his own home where he was blessed to build two. He was a family man who loved his children, he made sure they all were educated.  He was very dedicated & driven. He made sure his sons would know how to be great men, because he taught them everything he knew.

Tyree Wilburn was a member of the American Legion Post and Old Timers, and the Union for Electricians.

He leaves to cherish his memories to his three sons Anthony(Dawn) Wilburn of Dallas Tx, Tyrone (AsMa) Atlanta GA, and Terrill Rose of Benton Harbor, five daughters Marie Wilburn of Indianapolis IN, Barbara Collins of Detroit MI, Rashonda Wilburn of Columbus, Ohio, Jessica (Dwan) Mckinney and Brianna Wilburn of Benton Harbor MI.  His siblings Ruby Wilburn-James, two brothers Chester (Linda) Wilburn, Charles (Billy) Wilburn.  Grandchildren:  Tywona Wilburn, Traniesha Wilburn, Anthony Wilburn II, Danielle Dancer, Ray J. Collins, Shenise Wilburn, Eric King, Damarrio Hill, Kaniesha “Fattie” Hill, Terrill Rose, Marquise Wilburn, Tiara Wilburn, Cameron McKinney, Jared Wilburn, Brandon Wilburn, Daquarius “Fat Fat” McKinney, Andrew Wilburn.

Preceded him in death by his parents, and grandparents, son Tyree (chubby) Wilburn, Jr and daughter Sandy Askew.  Two sisters preceded in death Alma Wilburn Moore, Velma Wilburn Davis, two brother’s Portor Wilburn and Walter.

He was a giant in his own rights.  Tyree will be greatly missed.
