Maud Ethel Travis Windmon, the daughter of the late Tommie and Jim Ethel Travis, was born July 12, 1932 in Driver, Arkansas. She gracefully entered the gates of Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Monday morning February 19, 2018.

Maud professed her faith in the lord at an early age in Osceola, AR. She joined the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church taken in by her cousin the late Rev. Walter Lee Brown. She was a faithful and active member under the current leadership of Reverend Brian A. Clayborn, pastor. Maud was a member of the churches nurse’s guild and culinary department.
Maud was educated in the Osceola school district. She married the love of her life the late James Arthur Windmon, Sr. in 1949. They soon moved to Benton Harbor, MI for further employment opportunities and to raise their family. This union was blessed with six children, June, Shirley, Jean, Peaches, Faye, and Bobby. Maud’s livelihood was primarily as a general laborer at several companies in the Benton Harbor area, with most years of service rendered at the former VM Corporation.

Maud, as she was affectionately known by all, loved her family and friends. She opened her home and kitchen to those in need. She never turned anyone away, making a way out of no way. She was known for her cooking, especially the peach cobbler, and having a green thumb for all the beautiful flowers and luscious gardens grown each year. She was a neighborhood entrepreneur, as the “Freeze Cup Lady”. She made the best freeze cups in town.

Maud was preceded in death by her parents and husband James A. Windmon Sr., children James A. Windmon Jr., Carol Jean Fleming, and Bobby A. Windmon, three sisters, Sabbie Nichols, Mary Jefferson and Bessie Travis, six brothers Tommie, Joe, William, James, John, and Grover Travis.

Maud leaves to cherish her memories one sister Blanche Jefferson of Osceola, AR, one brother Andrew Travis, of Los Angeles, CA, four daughters Shirley Windmon (Ontione), Alice Faye (John) Taylor of Benton Harbor Michigan, Mary (Peaches) (Anthony) Smith of Fayetteville, NC.
