The Twin Cities Sustainable Harbor Project will invite community members, local governments, and partners to create a harbor vision that will lead to a vibrant, prosperous waterfront community for Benton Harbor, St. Joseph, and St. Joseph Charter Township.

Project partners, including the Office of the Great Lakes and Michigan Sea Grant, were invited by the local Twin Cities Harbor Conservancy to facilitate the process with a community design charrette.

The design charrette, a series of public facilitated planning sessions to be held at the Kinexus Training Center in Benton Harbor, will ask community members to envision investments and improvements they feel would best use the waterfront and enhance their communities.

The Twin Cities Sustainable Harbor Project is coordinated through Michigan Sea Grant’s Sustainable Small Harbors Initiative. Participating Michigan coastal communities, including New Baltimore, Ontonagon, and Au Gres, have used it to develop sustainable strategies to maximize use and value of their harbors and waterfronts.

The project is supported financially by the Michigan Office of the Great Lakes through the Michigan Great Lakes Protection Fund.
