Alton Lester Newbre

Alton Lester Newbre, 92, of Lawton, passed away March 4, 2019 at his home.
He was born August 17, 1926 in Kalamazoo, the son of Lester and Ruth Newbre.
Alton served in the Army during the WWII era, he retired from driving truck after many years. He was a member of the Shriner’s, Eagles and the VFW.  Alton was very adventurous and was always on the go. He enjoyed being with others and never met a stranger. Some of the things Alton enjoyed would be, flying, sky diving, scuba diving, fishing, and racing, just to mention a few.
He is survived by his two daughters, Debra (Tony) Galich and Judy (Thomas) Davis; son, Robert (Debbie) Newbre; six Grandchildren, Michael (Becky) Newbre, Christine Davis, Michelle Scott, Thomas Lee Davis, Ryan (Stevie) Cusentino and Matthew (Nikki Byler) Cusentino; 10 great grandchildren and his sister, Joyce Hawkins.
Alton was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Newbre in 2018,  grandson, Andrew Cusentino, sisters, Mae Hanneman and Elaine Otto, brothers Fred Newbre and Lynn Newbre.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.... ...Read Full Story

John Milton Hauf

John’s life began April 7, 1933, in Mexico, New York.  As a child his parents moved to Michigan making their home in Hartford.  John graduated from Hartford High School, after high school he proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korea War and was stationed for a time in Japan.  Upon returning home John went to work at Whirlpool where he grew into supervisor of the shipping department and was involved with the miracle kitchen.  Outside of work John enjoyed watching sports, writing, and sharing his stories with his daughter Delores.... ...Read Full Story

Marion LaRue Toney

Marion LaRue Toney, 86, of South Haven, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2019 at his home under Hospice care with his family by his side. Marion was born November 27, 1932 to Fax and Edna (Hudson) Toney in Berrien Center, Michigan. Marion married Betty Carter on October 11, 1952 in Volinia, Michigan. Marion started working on the family farm in Keeler Township at the age of nine. He graduated from Dowagiac Union High School in 1951. He received his American Farmers Award from the FFA. He later worked at Lovejoy in South Haven for 31 years, starting as a foreman and then as a project engineer. He had a gift for fixing machinery. He loved to fish out on Lake Michigan and enjoyed riding his John Deere tractor. He was a member of the Michigan Fly Wheelers and was a former member of the Hartford School Board. Margarita Rodriguez Ochoa, 67, of South Haven, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2019 at her home under Hospice care. She was born June 7, 1951 to J. Salud Rodriguez and Virjinia Heredia in Michoacán, Mexico. Margarita loved fishing and picking berries. Thelma Della Henry-Davis

Thelma Della Henry-Davis, 78, of Covert, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2019 at her home under Hospice Care with her family by her side. She was born August 24, 1940 to Sterling and Endia (Bingley) Neal in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Thelma worked for Covert Public Schools as the business secretary from 1976 until her retirement in 2004. She also served as the middle school cheerleading coach, and worked as a nurse at the Watervliet and South Haven Community Hospitals. Thelma loved making jewelry and was an avid doll collector.  She volunteered her time at the Covert Museum where she served on the board. Thelma was a contributor to the Covert Community Church’s Personal Care Pantry. She will be remembered as a strong-willed woman and she did it her way.... ...Read Full Story

Robin Sue Fisher

Robin Sue Fisher, 57, of Fennville, passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at the Glenn Arbor Hospice Center in Battle Creek. She was born April 28, 1961 to Charles and Joy Lou Martin in Grand Rapids. Robin married Michael Fisher on July 30, 1982 at the United Methodist Church in Fennville. While raising her own family, Robin operated a daycare out of their home. She was always a strong supporter of her children’s activities. She loved arts and crafts.
