Dayne Whitten Rice

Dayne W. Rice, 84, of Niles, passed away at his home, on Tuesday, May 3, 2022.
He was born to the late Lowell and Adeline (Chivatta) Rice in Mishawaka, Indiana on October 15, 1937, He graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1955. On March 11, 1957, in Chicago, Illinois, he enlisted into the United State Air Force proudly serving his country for two terms.
On November 21, 1987, he married the former Julaine Schultz. Together they made their home in Niles.
Dayne worked as a semi-truck driver for Uniroyal, and then went to work for Rollie Williams Paint Spot until he retired in 1999. After retirement he decided to learn a new skill, he began learning how to repair small engines, and up until the last year or so, he had worked on lawnmowers, snowblowers, and any other small engines his friends and family would bring to him.
He was the kind of man that would have been considered a true gentleman, always willing to help anyone in need; he was quick with a joke to lift your spirits, or a word of wisdom to give guidance. Dayne never met an auction that he didn’t like, often finding treasures that needed to be rebuilt.
Those preceding Dayne in death include his parents, his brothers; Frank and John Rice.
He is survived by his wife Julaine Rice of Niles, daughters, Susan Rice of Walkerton, Indiana; Deanna (Eric) Zukowski of New Carlyle, Indiana; step-children, Matthew (Teresa) McCubbins of South Bend; Michele McCubbins Perez of Buchanan; one grand-daughter, Olivia Rice; two step-grandsons, Robin and Riley Perez; sisters, Rebecca Keefe of Massachusetts; Martha (Dennis) Gregor of Arizona; brother, Dan (Connie) Rice of Washington; sisters-in-law, Irma Rice of South Bend; and Cindy Rice of Mishawaka; along with a host of nieces and nephews.

Bryan Shane Hamman

Bryan S. Hamman, 35, of Cassopolis, suddenly passed away at home on April 27, 2022. On October 10, 1986.
Bryan was born to his loving parents, Robert and Penny Hamman, in South Bend, Indiana.
Bryan was a man who wasn’t afraid to live life on the edge and would frequently test the limits of whatever he was currently interested in. He was someone who loved hard and valued his inner circle more than anything else in the world. Anybody that knew Bryan also knew that he would have taken a bullet for each of his kids. Being a Daddy to Keaton, Liam, and Kaeden was top priority all of the time. He loved nothing more than packing up his 2011 GMC 2500 and taking his boys fishing on the St. Joseph River. If they weren’t fishing, they were probably out riding around on his four-wheeler. Bryan wasn’t much into tangible assets and shiny things; he valued his relationships with people more than anything else. He invested himself into those that he loved and if anyone needed him, he would be there at the drop of a hat.
After graduating high school Bryan found himself working odd jobs here and there making money wherever he could find work. He enjoyed anything that was outside and working with his hands. He found that being self-employed meant he could run on his own schedule and that was always more his style. Bryan was a very kind, caring individual who always had the best intentions for people, even if the delivery wasn’t great.
One of his most special memories was on a family trip to the Bahamas where he was able to get his picture taken with O.J. Simpson. He had an incredible sense of humor and a very charismatic personality which made him an easy person to spend time with. Bryan was the goofball daredevil that we all wish we had a little more of in ourselves, you could always rely on him to come through with what he said, even though it might be a little late. He will be dearly missed by all of his family members, friends, and loved ones.
Those who have preceded Bryan in death are only his grandparents and distant relatives.
He is survived by both of his parents, Robert and Penny Hamman; his three siblings, Josh, Dale, and Amber Hamman; his three precious children, Keaton, Liam, and Kaeden Hamman; soulmate and lifelong sweetheart Crystal Simpson; as well as many other extended family members and friends.
The Hamman Family will be holding a memorial service at the Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Monday, May 9, 2022. A visitation will be held prior to the service and will start at 2:00 p.m. with services beginning at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the Hamman family asks that memorial contributions be made straight to the family or to Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services in care of Bryan.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Barbara Clare (Hoenig) Calloway

Barbara “Barb” Clare Calloway (82) was called home to heaven on April 27. 2022 after battling illness. She remained  in her home with her family and friends at her side as her caregivers.
Barb was the youngest of 3 children, born in Chicago, IL on January 29, 1940 to Elmer and Helen (Lyson) Hoenig.  She lived in Western Springs IL until 5th grade when she moved to Coloma MI and met her lifelong best friend Janie Rasmussen (Peterson, Staggers) and her brother Rick Rasmussen. She grew up in Coloma, and graduated from, Coloma High School in 1958. She remained involved with many of her graduating class for reunions.  After graduating high school, she trained as a Radiologic Technologist, beginning her career at Berrien General Hospital, working many years for Osteopathic Surgeon Dr. Dean Hudnutt with a trio of lifelong friends (Betty, Pam & Tam) that became family of the heart. When Dr. Hudnutt retired in the early 80’s, she attended Michiana Community Hospital’s accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program and became a Sonographer (RDMS) at Berrien General hospital, while her daughter was the Sonographer in the next county over. They often consulted together with their Radiologists on challenging cases and continued their love of patient care and discussing challenging cases for many years.  Barbara’s career in diagnostic medicine had many challenges, but her joy was in her OB patients and the thousands of babies she imaged, including her own grandchildren. Barb was a lifelong member of and active in St Joseph Catholic church until she was no longer able to serve, she made many friends within her church family that she cherished.
Barbara was a devoted grandmother to not only her own 3 grandchildren, but to several grandchildren of the heart. She enjoyed traveling with her friends and family, celebrating holidays in LaPorte with some of her favorite people, and eating out or going to plays and movies with friends and family. She volunteered at her church and lived the life of a generous and devoted care giver in her personal life as well.
Barbara continued her parent’s example of acceptance and love by adding  many new “family of the heart” from her children’s friends and her own special friends. Her acquired family of the heart include dear friends: Betty Stover and her children, Pam and Steve Subka and their children, Tam Mason(Lori Shilts) and son, Tonah Mason and son, Len Rothrock(Sue) and their children,  Rick & Melissa Lara and their amazing daughter Linda a grandchild of the heart. Barb had friends that she played cards with until many of them were no longer able to do so, their treasured friendship continued into her illness as they frequently communicated with her and sent gifts that brightened her days. Barb’s  life was also enriched by many of her lifelong neighbors.

Margie Sue (Hampton) Minisee

Margie Sue Hampton Minisee began this life July 27, 1932 in DeKalb, Mississippi, the third of six children born to the union of Clyde Sr. and Nodie Hampton.  She passed from this world on April 19, 2022 in Murrieta, California.  She spent her early childhood in Mississippi, but when she was six years old the family moved to Chicago, Illinois, to join her father who had moved north for employment.  After relocating to Chicago, her grandmother Annie Gulley introduced the family to the Shiloh Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church.  Wanting to remove their family from city life, the Hampton’s decided to take advantage of country living and in 1945 they pulled up stakes in the Windy City and moved to Cassopolis, Michigan.  Years later it was there that Margie met the quiet, hard-working, local eligible bachelor, Darwin Leonard Minisee, whom she married August 28, 1949. To that union four sons were born, in order; Wilbur James Minisse, Robert Eugene Minisee, Delbert Leonard Minisee, now deceased, and Alfred Bradley Minisee.... ...Read Full Story
